We are often asked why Gravity Coffee supports ALS, and what our connection is. The truth is that our founder has a personal connection, loosing his father to ALS in 2001. His father was very modest person, very grounded. As a matter of fact, that is where "Stay Grounded" comes from.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), is a fatal disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In ALS, nerve cells in the brain and spinal
cord that control movement will stop functioning. The condition leads to paralysis, and patients eventually cannot breath or swallow on
their own. It can strike any race or ethnic background, and the life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years with only 20% living
longer than 5 years. Approximately 80% of cases begin between the ages of 40-70. Recent studies show that military veterans, particularly those
deployed during the Gulf War, are approximately twice as likely to develop ALS. The financial cost to families of persons with ALS is exceedingly
high. In the advanced stages, care can average $200,000 per year.
The founder of Gravity Coffee lost his father to ALS in 2001and is invested in finding a cure by matching all donations to Gravity Coffee.
